Fun on Bikes in Ireland

In July I took a fabulous two-week vacation to Ireland. The second week was a cycling tour around the northwestern part of the country, in the highlands of County Donegal. We rode about 40 miles a day over hilly terrain, passing through windswept moors, lush farmland speckled with sheep, and small picturesque country towns, and along stunning coastlines. What a wonderful way to experience a country!

There really is no greater feeling of freedom and empowerment and exhilaration than being on a bike! When that bike is taking you through the Irish countryside, it's even better.

And now, a few photos from the trip. I'd be happy to autograph any of them for you, upon request. Ha.

Outside Dunfanaghy

Part of the tour group; this gang rode a challenging route together on the last day. They were all the strongest cyclists of the group and I was so proud of myself for being able to keep up with them without trouble. Clearly all my training this summer paid off.

In the homestretch of a long climb involving some evil, steep switchbacks.

Made it to the top!

Somewhere outside Dunloe; we stopped to snap some photos of this wonderful view. Don't I look foxy in that helmet with my hair poking out?
